Before

The owners of this home with a large sloping backyard recognized that slope’s erosion and drainage issues needed to be addressed. Due to heavy rains, the erosion on the slope made the existing steps dangerous. In fact, this access route to the lower level of their property was difficult - except for their dog, Pudge.

After

The view from the top of the slope offers a different perspective. The erosion concern was addressed by planting liriope, perennial groundcovers, native trees and shrubs. The small steps were replaced with large, heavy natural stone steps. A large drain box was installed and connected to carry the water to a previously installed drainage system that is covered by a dry streambed made with natural river rock stone.

Island Bed

The newly installed island bed offers visual interest to a large back lot. As it grows, it will provide a natural privacy screen. The garden is viewed from the deck and at ground level. Smaller perennials with a variety of heights and bloom cycles can be enjoyed one walks around the bed. As the garden matures, the ornamental grasses will provide a soft, breezy backdrop for the colorful butterfly garden section.
