RHIZOME
The following is a list of rhizome plants according
to type of storage organ.
Rhizomes are thick, fleshy, horizontal underground
stems. Some rhizomes may lie directly on the soil surface (bearded iris).
Foliage, roots and flowers grow from buds on the rhizome. Rhizomes generally
creep or spread, unlike tubers.
Rhizomes are usually divided so pieces contain at
least one fan or group of foliage and significant amount of roots.
Examples include:
Iris Oxalis Zantedeschia (Calla Lily)
