CANNAS--WINTER STORAGE

After cannas have been damaged by a killing frost, cut the tops off within two or three inches of the soil. Dig the tuberous roots with a spading fork taking care not to damage the fleshy root system. Dry in a frost-free location for several weeks; stems will separate easily from the roots. Check tuberous roots carefully and discard any diseased or damaged ones.

Cannas do not require covering for the winter. Often, they are laid upside down in a box and placed in a cool, dry location for the winter. Proper temperature should be between 45 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
