DESIGN

Our design expertise can help resolve many of your property concerns. For instance, are you planning to --

  • Revitalize an existing landscape?
  • Increase curb appeal?
  • Screen unwanted views?
  • Identify locations and suitable material for dog runs, ponds or pathways
  • Renovate your existing home?
  • Create a kitchen or Meditation garden?

If you have a green thumb and strong back, a landscape consultation may be all you need. If your time is limited and your interests are other than landscaping, we are available to design a custom landscape plan.

Overview of Client/Landscape Designer Relationship

A. Initial client and designer meeting. Discuss client needs for storage, dog runs, patio and walks, improved drainage, budget, etc.
B. Client signs Agreement and provides payment deposit for design work. Client provides plat of property, if needed.
C. Designer measures client's house, property and related areas to create a landscape plan with the dimensions of the site. Designer photographs areas to be landscaped.
D. Designer researches appropriate plant material, hardscape material and other concerns specific to the client's project.
E. If appropriate, client and designer meet to review preliminary design. Second design payment deposit requested.
F. Designer finalizes design, prepares plant and material list, which includes plant quantity and cultivars.
G. Client and designer meet and review final landscape design, plant and material list. Client retains copy of landscape plan. Final design payment due.
H. Designer facilitates next phase of project. Makes recommendations for the installation of landscape material and other services, as needed.

Design Fees

Landscape design and consultation fees are based on an hourly rate. Design fees generally include consultations, measuring property, photography and photocopy expenses, design preparation, research and presentation of final plan, plant and material list.

Design fees are separate from fees for landscape installation services and materials.

During installation, we are available to be on-site, as needed, to ensure your landscaping is just as discussed during the design process! This on-site service is based on an hourly rate.

The type of questions we ask may include-

  • How do you use the space?
  • What are the views of the space from inside your home and other areas of the property?
  • How long do you plan to live in the house?
  • Do you plan to renovate?
  • How much time do you have for maintenance?
  • Do you have a budget?
  • Do you have photographs of landscapes you like?
  • Do you have specific needs, such as an area for a play set, handicapped access or an area for grilling and outdoor eating.

Once these questions are addressed, we develop a landscape plan. The plan is a drawing of your property. It is created by using information taken from your plat, site measurements and photographs. It may include location and quantity of plant material, hardscape materials (step stones, pathways, patio or deck), indicate areas needed to be regraded to improve drainage, storage needs for garden tools and furniture during winter months.
